Big Picture Event - Vermont Yankee: a discussion of our Energy Future

Vermonters face a critical decision on our energy future:

Vermont Yankee, the state’s sole nuclear power plant, is scheduled to close down in 2012. Currently, the Vermont Legislature is considering whether or not to grant a 20 year license extension to continue operation of the plant through 2032.

Panelists will discuss the political, health, economic, and environmental implications of this decision.

Met up with Richard Czaplinski

who posted the following on the Valley Futures (http://valleyfutures.net/2009/06/10/root-cellaring-why-and-how-to-do-it/) website.  Check it out - also if you go to the Valley Futures site you can download the pdf.   Thanks Richard - cool             WR

Farwell to Bonnaroo

The last day was another great day of carbon shred. We have collected close to 4000 pledges among them a tree on stilts :)  I even gave him a hug which made me a true tree hugger.  We did some kicking work and planted lots of mental seeds to grow until same time next year...

Lydia from kilowattours.org gave us major props at the end of the day - we were feeling the love. Love you back kilowattours you are doing amazing work keep rocking it.

Bonnaroo Carbon Shredders Day Four

Bonnaroo Carbon Shredders Day Three!

Wow, over 2000  pledges to reduce carbon so far and two more days to go. We washed some more laundry in cold water this morning and are brewing solar cofee to get more peeps in our booth. This morning we had some great conversation with folks who want to take the carbon shred to their own communities. yeah!!
Life is good down here and peeps are getting it and genuinly want to do more and impact less.
Love and good vibes

Bonnaroo Carbon Shredders

They are off to Bonnaroo!!!  A group of 7th Geners and Green Mountain Coffee folks are off to turn on Festival folks to Carbon Shredding (the fine art of considering in your every deliberation the carbon impact of all your decisions)!  Our goal
this year is to reach twice as many people as we did last year (3000) and to get them all to reduce their footprint by 20% by the 2010 Festival. Bonnaroo Carbon Shredders are also meeting up with Gardner Supply folks at the festival - so it is Vermont group of social responsible companies out to change the world...

Jean Pain - compost based bio energy system

Jean Pain - A french innovator who developed a compost based bio energy system that produced 100% of his energy needs. He heated water to 60 degrees celsius at a rate of 4 litres a minute which he used for washing and heating. He also distilled enough methane to run an electricity generator, cooking elements, and power his truck. This method of creating usable energy from composting materials has come to be known as Jean Pain Composting, or the Jean Pain Method. Here's the film to explain:
